1.1 Sustainability Management
In line with global sustainability trends, the Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital proactively launched its sustainability efforts in 2023 by benchmarking the strategies of peer hospitals. In 2024, under the leadership of the Medical Affairs Bureau, Ministry of National Defense, Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital collaborated with the Military Health System and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy to jointly sign the ’Hospital Sustainability Development Initiative’, signaling a strong commitment to driving sustainable transformation within the healthcare sector. In the same year, Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital swiftly established a dedicated Sustainability Team to create a formal organizational framework for systematically promoting sustainability-related initiatives and is set to publish its first sustainability report in 2025.
To deepen its professional capacity in sustainable development, Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital adopted a foresighted approach to cultivate internal talent. Led personally by the Superintendent, a total of 24 staff members completed training and obtained certification as “Climate and Health Managers,” underscoring strong commitment of Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital to sustainable development and laying a solid foundation in the fields of climate change and health management.
Sustainability Governance Structure
To implement its sustainability vision, Zuoying Armed Forces General Hospital established a Sustainability Team in 2024 and set up a dedicated Sustainability Office to coordinate all hospital-wide sustainability initiatives. The team regularly reviews high-priority topics and sustainability goals, while overseeing and updating ESG-related action areas and performance indicators.
Beginning in 2025, the Sustainability Team Leader will chair quarterly sustainability meetings. The outcomes of these meetings will be submitted to the designated superior officer for approval, and subsequently forwarded to the Sustainability Office for oversight and follow-up. In addition, a semi-annual Sustainability General Assembly, chaired by the Chairperson (the Superintendent), will be convened to reinforce the effective advancement of sustainability initiatives.
